Wind Exposure

Exposure B

Urban and suburban areas, wooded areas, or other terrain with numerous closely spaced obstructions having the size of single family dwellings or larger.

Exposure C

Open terrain with scattered obstructions having heights generally less than 30 feet. This category includes flat open country and grasslands.

Exposure D

Flat, unobstructed areas and water surfaces. This category includes smooth mud flats, salt flats, and unbroken ice.

Span Limit

The maximum distance between the FX roof attachments.

FX Max Values

Max allowable spacing between attachment points, based on engineered span charts.

Specified Limits

A manually entered limit on spans. If the FX maximum is greater than the manual limit, the manual limit will be used instead. If the FX maximum is smaller than the entered limit, the FX maximum will be used.

Span

The distance between roof attachments. This number should be less than or equal to the maximum span value listed for your selected XR Rail within the "Rails" section.

Typical residential installations have attachment spacing between 4' and 8', whereas commercial installations have spacing as high as 12'. Consult with a structural engineer or your local building authority to confirm the allowable attachment spacing for your array.

Your Presets

If you normally use a specific panel for your projects or you almost always work with ASCE 7.16, you can create a preset with these values along with other project parameters. Then when you create a new project, you can choose to create it with this preset and the preset values will be prepopulated in your new project allowing you to configure a project and generate a bill of materials more quickly.
